The task was to design a unique set of playing cards for the popular Top Trumps game, providing collectors with the opportunity to infuse their own personal flair into the mix.
I chose music, particularly grunge, as the central theme, then decided to expand into various musical genres like hip-hop and disco, enticing collectors to assemble a diverse range.
Customisation posed a challenge, which I addressed by crafting a set combining the world’s most iconic music bands, accessible through the Top Trumps personalised website. I began with sketching drawings of my hand, microphones, boom boxes, and disco balls, serving as distinctive patterns and imagery on the cards. Extensive research ensured that each band’s details aligned with the established card game’s standards.
Each individual pack boasts a unique colour scheme, differentiating them for buyers. In contrast, the personalised combined pack adapts and harmonises these cards, featuring bold blues, along with striking pinks and purples, creating a vibrant and attention-grabbing card set. The design will undoubtedly stand on the shelf, and will be right at home with the existing Top Trumps collections.

To allow users to craft their own custom decks, making the game uniquely theirs and ensure it remained on brand, I integrated the vibrant patterns and colours from these personalised decks into the website’s design, resulting in a visually appealing and cohesive digital space.
