For this TAFE assignment I was tasked with the project
of revamping a book cover for a copyright-free title, I chose to rekindle my childhood memories by working on ‘The Jungle Book.’
Using Procreate, I sketched Mowgli based on a photo of my son to capture a realistic child’s expression. I aimed to emphasise the intense relationship between Mowgli and Shere Khan and the battle about to take place by depicting them facing off and locked in a stare.
To make it attention-grabbing, I departed from the traditional colour palette, opting for vibrant oranges from the tiger, complemented by purples and blues. I added splashes of colour behind the sketches to infuse depth and drama. The inside cover features a sketch I did of the original author Rudyard Kipling and a small paragraph about his life and the idea behind the original story.
While this cover deviates from the typical Jungle Book look, I believe it would entice anyone to pick it up and start reading.
